Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a spiritually charged Monday dawn as doors to the sanctum opened at 4 am for the sacred Bhasma Aarti.
Following temple tradition, priests first performed the ceremonial worship of all deities in the sanctum. Lord Mahakal was then offered jalabhishek, followed by a Panchamrit abhishek prepared with milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit extracts.
Ganesh Form Adornment with Silver Bilva Leaves
Before the Aarti began, the priests rang the traditional first bell and entered the sanctum. Chanting mantras, they offered Hariom water and began the morning rituals.
After the Panchamrit abhishek, Lord Mahakal was adorned in a Ganesh form, decorated with:
- Silver bilva leaves (Rajat Bilvapatra)
- Tripund tilak
- Chandan (sandalwood)
The saffron and chandan-etched Ganesh tilak, silver embellishments, and the bhang-chandan paste gave the Jyotirlinga an exceptionally divine and captivating appearance.
Traditional Bhasma Ritual and Sacred Offerings
Once the kapoor aarti concluded, the Jyotirlinga was draped in cloth and the ritual Bhsmaropan (application of holy ash) was performed in the traditional manner.
Lord Mahakal was then adorned with:
- Silver Sheshnag crown
- Silver mundmala (garland of heads)
- Rudraksha mala
- Garlands of fragrant flowers
The deity was offered fruits and sweets, while the sanctum filled with the scent of mogra and rose.
Thousands Witness the Divine Monday Darshan
A large number of devotees gathered for Monday’s Bhasma Aarti and received blessings as Lord Mahakal appeared in the magnificent Ganesh form.
As per tradition, the Maha Nirvani Akhara offered sacred ash to the deity. Devotees believe that after the ash is offered, Lord Mahakal manifests from the formless to the visible form, granting darshan to his followers.
