Ujjain | Wednesday Morning: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a breathtaking spiritual moment today as the Wednesday Bhasma Aarti concluded with the divine and radiant royal form of Lord Mahakal revealed to devotees.
The ceremony began with the traditional ritual in the Sabha Mandap, where priests performed swastivachan into the ear of Veerbhadra, rang the ceremonial bell, and opened the silver-plated doors of the sanctum after seeking divine permission.
Panchamrit Abhishek and Sacred Rituals Inside the Sanctum
Upon entering the sanctum, the priests removed the previous adornments and performed a Panchamrit abhishek using milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey, and fruit extracts.
Following the abhishek, the sanctum echoed with mantras, culminating in a serene camphor aarti before the day’s special adornment began.
Silver ‘Om’, Tripundra and Bhang–Chandan Adornment
Today’s decoration featured a silver ‘Om’ symbol on the forehead of the Jyotirlinga, along with the sacred Tripundra and spiritual line work.
A greenish bhang–chandan herbal paste was applied, highlighting sharp divine eyes, red lips, and kohl markings — giving the Jyotirlinga an intensely awakened and vibrant appearance.
The temple was beautifully decorated with lotus, jasmine, rose and marigold flowers. A grand lotus garland was offered to the deity, enhancing the magnificence of the divine form.
Royal Adornments and Sacred Atmosphere
Silver embellishments, traditional shawls, and cloths in saffron, red and white were draped on both sides of the Jyotirlinga.
White flower garlands and bead chains added a regal touch to the divine form. The silver sanctum, ornate carvings, and artistic detailing filled the atmosphere with spiritual energy.
Bhasma Aarti Performed With Traditional Instruments
Fruit offerings, sweets and naivedya were presented to Lord Mahakal. The Bhasma Aarti was then performed to the sound of jhanj, manjira, conch, damru and bells, creating an electrifying devotional ambience.
A large number of devotees attended the ceremony, receiving blessings of the deity’s divine, manifested form. As per tradition, the Maha Nirvani Akhada offered the sacred bhasma. According to belief, Lord Mahakal appears in a manifested sakar form after the offering of bhasma.
