Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a deeply spiritual morning today as the sacred Monday Bhasma Aarti was performed with elaborate rituals and a divine Shringar of Lord Mahakal.

As the sanctum doors opened at dawn, the Jyotirlinga appeared in a radiant form, decorated with traditional markings and sacred offerings.

Elaborate Rituals Begin at Dawn

Priests began the ceremony by performing worship of all deities inside the sanctum, followed by the jalabhishek of Lord Mahakal.

A Panchamrit Abhishek, prepared with milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit extracts, was performed as per ancient tradition.

Divine Shringar With Silver Tripund and Bhimashankar Tilak

In today’s Shringar, priests adorned the Jyotirlinga with:

  • Silver Tripund
  • Silver crescent (Ardachandra)
  • Shivling symbol on the forehead

A special bhang–chandan paste gave the deity a deep black-green glow, further highlighted with red lips, fierce eyes, and saffron moustache. The deity was also decorated with kajal dots, facial ornaments, and a stunning garland of sacred seeds — the highlight of today’s Shringar.

Fragrant Flower Garlands Add to the Radiance

Fresh garlands of marigold, rose, and kadamba flowers were offered at the crown of the Jyotirlinga. Priests then struck the traditional first Ghantal, offering holy water with chants of Hari Om, followed by the Kapur Aarti.

Once the Shringar was complete, the Jyotirlinga was covered briefly and the sacred Bhasma ritual was performed.

Silver Ornaments and Naagabhushan Offered After Bhasma

Post the Bhasma offering, Lord Mahakal was decorated with silver ornaments, Naagabhushan, and layers of fragrant flower garlands.

The sanctum glowed with the radiance of silver canopy, Trishul, and traditional embellishments, creating a powerful spiritual ambience. Devotees also offered fruits, sweets, and scented Naivedya during the ritual.

Large Crowd Witnesses Rare Monday Darshan

A large number of devotees attended the special Monday Bhasma Aarti and received blessings of Lord Mahakal in this divine, awakened form. It is believed that after the Bhasma ritual, Lord Mahakal grants direct and vibrant darshan, fulfilling the wishes of devotees.
