Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-renowned Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga witnessed a spiritually charged atmosphere during the early morning Bhasma Aarti on Saturday, as the sanctum doors opened to reveal Lord Mahakal’s serene yet radiant form.

As chants of Har Har Mahadev echoed through the sanctum, devotees were greeted by a calm and luminous manifestation of the deity, marking the sacred beginning of the day at the temple.

Panchamrit Abhishek Performed as per Tradition

Following age-old rituals, the Jyotirlinga was first bathed with holy water. This was followed by a Panchamrit abhishek using milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit juice. The ritual concluded with the offering of sacred ash, symbolizing Lord Mahakal’s timeless and powerful form.

Silver Tripundra and Bilva Motif Adorn the Jyotirlinga

In the special shringar of the day, a silver Tripundra was inscribed on the forehead of the Jyotirlinga, with a bilva-leaf-inspired silver ornament placed at its center. A circular design crafted with saffron and sandalwood around the Tripundra drew particular attention.

The eyes of the deity were delicately painted using traditional colors, lending a vivid and awakened expression to Lord Mahakal’s gaze.

Floral Decorations and Royal Alankaar Enhance the Darshan

Fresh garlands made of jasmine, rose, marigold, and dhatura flowers were offered atop the Jyotirlinga, filling the sanctum with fragrance. The facial adornment with ash and sandalwood further enhanced the spiritual aura of the darshan.

After the Bhasma Aarti, Lord Mahakal was adorned in a royal form with silver ornaments, a Sheshnag-inspired crown, and traditional ash-sandalwood embellishments. Priests continued Vedic chants throughout the rituals, maintaining a deeply meditative atmosphere.

Devotees Gather in Large Numbers for Sacred Darshan

A large number of devotees from across the country and abroad attended the Bhasma Aarti, witnessing the divine form of Lord Mahakal from the Nandi Hall and temple Parisar. It is widely believed that attending the Bhasma Aarti helps devotees overcome hardships and receive special blessings from the deity.
