Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a deeply spiritual ambience on Sunday as the early-morning Bhasma Aarti unfolded inside the sanctum. The moment the garbhagriha doors opened, devotees were greeted with the awe-inspiring, vibrant form of Lord Mahakal.
Priests began the rituals with the traditional jalabhishek, followed by a sacred Panchamrit Abhishek—a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit extracts—offered with Vedic mantras.
Bhang–Chandan Tripund and Silver Trishul Decoration
After the Aarti, the Jyotirlinga was decorated with bhang, chandan, and a prominent tripund on the forehead.
A divine glow reflected from the detailed adornment on the eyes, brow line and face, crafted using chandan and aromatic herbal pastes.
At the centre of the Shivling, priests placed a magnificent silver trishul-omkar ornament, which became the highlight of today’s decoration.
Jyotirlinga Crowned With Fresh Flowers
The top of the Mahakal Jyotirlinga was adorned with a grand garland woven from fresh mogra, rose, and marigold flowers.
The entire sanctum was decorated with long garlands in saffron, white and purple hues, creating a fragrant and sacred atmosphere for devotees.
Royal Form of Lord Mahakal Completed With Silver Ornaments
Following the Bhasma offering, priests completed the traditional ‘Raja Swaroop’ decoration. This included silver ornaments, a silver Sheshnag-style crown, and a special layer of chandan and bhang paste applied ceremonially to the Jyotirlinga.
Priests also performed puja and abhishek of the Ganesh idol and other deities within the temple complex.
Thousands Witness the Divine Aarti
A large number of devotees attended today’s Bhasma Aarti, receiving darshan of Lord Mahakal in His divine, awakened form. According to belief, the deity bestows special blessings upon devotees after the Bhasma Aarti ritual.
