Ujjain, November 4: The Ujjain administration has accelerated its preparations for the grand Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028, one of India’s largest spiritual gatherings. On Tuesday, Divisional Commissioner and Mela Officer Ashish Singh and Collector Roshan Kumar Singh inspected key project sites — including the Sewarkhedi–Silarkhedi project and the Kanh Closed Duct project — along with local media representatives.
During the visit, officials briefed journalists on the technical aspects and progress of both projects aimed at rejuvenating the Shipra River, which holds immense religious significance.
Shipra River to Flow Year-Round
Commissioner Ashish Singh said the ₹614.53 crore Sewarkhedi–Silarkhedi project will ensure the Shipra River remains flowing throughout the year. Under this plan, monsoon water from the Sewarkhedi barrage will be stored in the Silarkhedi reservoir, maintaining steady river flow even during summer months. The project is targeted for completion within 30 months.

Kanh Closed Duct to Prevent Pollution
Officials also highlighted the Kanh Closed Duct project, designed to prevent contaminated water from the Kanh River from entering the Shipra. The 30-kilometre-long system includes cut-and-cover and tunnel sections, with four major shafts equipped for modern cleaning and maintenance. Once completed, the construction agency will operate the system for 15 years to ensure consistent upkeep.
₹20,000 Crore Development Push Across Ujjain
Later, during an interaction at Hotel Anjushree, Collector Roshan Kumar Singh shared that over ₹20,000 crore worth of infrastructure and civic development projects are in progress across Ujjain — including roads, bridges, ghats, water supply, sewerage, and tourism upgrades.

The administration expects around 300 million devotees to participate in Simhastha 2028, which will be organized as a “Zero Waste Event” to promote sustainability and environmental protection.
Media Interaction and Acknowledgment
Officials thanked the media for their active participation and sought feedback during the discussion. The session, held under the direction of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, was attended by Deputy Director of Public Relations Arun Kumar Rathore, Assistant PRO Kapil Mishra, and representatives from major media houses.
Media representatives expressed appreciation for the administration’s transparent communication and proactive engagement ahead of Simhastha 2028.
