Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The doors of the world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple were opened early Monday at 4 am for the sacred Bhasma Aarti, offering devotees a glimpse of Lord Mahakal in his divine and majestic form.

As soon as the sanctum doors opened, priests performed ritual worship of all deities installed in the sanctum and conducted Jalabhishek of Lord Mahakal. This was followed by Panchamrit Abhishek, prepared from milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices.

Royal Shringar with Silver Crescent and Tripundra

Lord Mahakal was adorned in a royal (Raja) form, with offerings of bhang and sandalwood, along with a silver crescent, Tripundra, and sacred ornaments.

Before the main rituals, the first temple bell was rung, and upon entering the sanctum, priests meditated on the deity while chanting mantras and offered sacred water with the recitation of Hari Om.

Bhasma Offered to the Jyotirlinga

The Jyotirlinga was then covered with cloth, after which holy ash (Bhasma) was reverently applied. Following the Bhasma offering, Lord Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown in the form of Sheshnag, a silver skull garland, and Rudraksha malas.

Fragrant garlands made of fresh flowers were offered, with the deity adorned with jasmine and rose blossoms. Fruits and sweets were also presented as part of the ritual offering.

Devotees Witness Divine Darshan

A large number of devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti and sought the blessings of Baba Mahakal.

The Mahanirvani Akhada performed the sacred offering of Bhasma to the deity.
