Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a deeply spiritual moment on Monday morning as the doors of the sanctum opened during the sacred Bhasma Aarti, revealing the mesmerizing and divine form of Lord Mahakal.

As per tradition, temple priests first worshipped all deities installed in the sanctum before performing the Jalabhishek of the Jyotirlinga. This was followed by the Panchamrit Abhishek, using milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices.

Silver Omkar and Tripundra Mark the Divine Shringar

During the adornment, Lord Mahakal’s forehead was decorated with a sandalwood Tripundra, a radiant white tilak at the centre, and a beautifully crafted silver Omkar placed below.

The Jyotirlinga was further embellished with a sacred paste of bhang and sandalwood, highlighted by saffron and white markings, reflecting the awakened and powerful presence of the deity.

Floral Garlands and Shivamay Atmosphere

The Jyotirlinga was adorned with fragrant garlands of roses, marigolds, lotuses, and white flowers. The sanctum resonated with devotion as silver mandap decorations, glowing lamps, incense, and sacred chants filled the space, creating a truly Shivamay atmosphere.

After the shringar, the Jyotirlinga was ceremonially covered with cloth, and sacred ash (Bhasma) was offered following traditional rituals.

Bhasma Offering and Devotee Participation

Following the Bhasma offering, Lord Mahakal was presented with fruits, sweets, and naivedya. The Bhasma Aarti concluded amid the rhythmic sounds of cymbals, conch shells, damru, and bells.

A large number of devotees present during the ritual witnessed the divine form of Baba Mahakal and sought his blessings.

Ancient Tradition of the Mahanirvani Akhara

As per centuries-old tradition, the Maha Nirvani Akhara performed the Bhasma offering. Devotional belief holds that after the Bhasma ritual, Lord Mahakal manifests from the formless to the physical form, granting divine darshan and blessings to devotees.
