Ujjain | Wednesday: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a spiritually charged dawn on Wednesday as priests opened the sanctum for the early-morning Bhasma Aarti.
The ritual began with salutations to Veerbhadra, followed by Swasti Vachan and formal permission to open the silver doorway of the garbhagriha.
During the adornment ceremony, the priests inscribed ‘Om’ on the deity’s forehead, applied chandan Tripund, and offered bhaang and a rose garland as part of the traditional shringar.
Complete Rituals Performed Before Aarti
Inside the Nandi Hall, Nandi was bathed, meditated upon and worshipped as per tradition.
The sacred abhishek of Lord Mahakal was carried out with water, followed by the five nectars — milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey — along with fruit juices to prepare the panchamrit offering.
Devotees later offered dry fruits, fruits, and sweets, after which the holy bhasma was ceremonially applied.
Mahakal Adorned with Silver Crown and Sacred Garlands
Following the rituals, Lord Mahakal was adorned with a silver Sheshnag crown, silver mundmala, and a rudraksha garland, along with fragrant flower garlands.
A large gathering of devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti, receiving blessings in the serene, pre-dawn atmosphere.
The Mahanirvani Akhara offered the sacred bhasma during the ceremony.
According to temple belief, once the bhasma is offered, the Lord is said to manifest from the formless to the visible form, granting darshan to the devotees.
