Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a deeply spiritual moment on Sunday morning as the doors of the sanctum opened during the sacred Bhasma Aarti, revealing Lord Mahakal’s majestic and divine royal form.
As per age-old tradition, priests first performed rituals for all deities installed inside the sanctum before offering jalabhishek to the Mahakal Jyotirlinga. This was followed by Panchamrit Abhishek, prepared using milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices.
Silver Crown, Sacred Adornments Highlight Royal Shringar
In Sunday’s special shringar, Lord Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown, bhang and sandalwood paste, tripund, and traditional ornaments.
The Jyotirlinga’s expressive eyes, white moustache, and red lips gave the deity a striking royal appearance.
Heavy garlands of rose, marigold, and violet flowers completed the divine decoration, drawing the attention of devotees present in large numbers.
Bhasma Ritual Performed After Kapur Aarti
After the kapur aarti, the Jyotirlinga was covered with cloth and the sacred bhasma was applied as per ritual practice.
Following the bhasma offering, Lord Mahakal was adorned with the silver crown of Sheshnag, silver mund mala, rudraksha garland, and fragrant floral garlands.
Offerings of fruits, dry fruits, and sweets were also presented to the deity.
Large Devotee Turnout at Early Morning Aarti
The temple doors opened around 4 am, and chants of “Hari Om” echoed through the sanctum as holy water was offered after the first bell resonance.
A large number of devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti and received blessings from Lord Mahakal’s sakar (manifest) form.
As per tradition, the sacred ash was offered on behalf of the Maha Nirvani Akhara.
Belief Linked to the Sacred Ash Ritual
Devotees believe that after the offering of bhasma, Lord Mahakal transforms from formless to manifest form, granting divine darshan to his followers.
