Ujjain | Thursday Morning: The Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a deeply spiritual atmosphere on Thursday morning as the sacred Bhasma Aarti began at 4 AM. The temple doors opened to traditional worship of all deities in the sanctum by the priests.
The rituals started with Jalabhishek, followed by the holy Panchamrit Abhishek made from milk, curd, ghee, sugar and fruit extracts. After the worship, the ceremonial first bell was sounded and ‘Hari Om’ water was offered to Lord Mahakal.
Sandalwood Tilak and Silver Rudraksha Mala for Lord Mahakal
After the camphor aarti, the Jyotirlinga was beautifully decorated with a sandalwood tilak, a silver rudraksha mala, a crown and divine ornaments. Once the shringar was completed, the Jyotirlinga was covered for the sacred Bhasma ritual.
The priests later performed the traditional Raja Swaroop shringar using bhang, dry fruits, ornaments and fragrant flowers.
Silver Crown, Flower Garlands and Sacred Offerings
After the Bhasma offering, Mahakal was adorned with a silver Sheshnag crown, a silver mundmala, rudraksha mala and garlands of aromatic flowers.
Fresh roses decorated the sanctum as fruits and sweets were offered to the deity.
Thousands Gather for Blessings
A large number of devotees attended the Thursday Bhasma Aarti to seek blessings. The Maha Nirvani Akhada offered the sacred Bhasma as part of the ritual.
Temple tradition holds that after the Bhasma offering, Lord Mahakal appears in his manifest form, granting divine grace to devotees.
