Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: At the world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, devotees witnessed a rare and spiritually charged moment on Friday morning as Lord Mahakal was adorned in the divine form of Lord Hanuman to mark Hanuman Ashtami.
The auspicious Bhasma Aarti began at dawn. As the sanctum doors opened, priests first removed the previous adornments, followed by Panchamrit worship and Karpur Aarti.
Traditional Rituals Performed in Nandi Hall
In Nandi Hall, rituals began with the snan (holy bath) of Nandi, followed by meditation and worship. Lord Mahakal was then bathed with water and later anointed with Panchamrit — a sacred mix of milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey, and fruit extracts.
Mahakal Adorned with Silver Crown, Trishul and Rudraksha Mala
The priests offered Lord Mahakal a silver crescent, silver trident, crown, and ornaments. Bhagwan was further adorned with bhang, sandalwood, dry fruits, and sacred ash.
To complete the Hanuman-form decoration, the deity was presented with a silver Sheshnag crown, a silver Mundmala, and a Rudraksha garland.
A fragrant floral mala was also placed on the Jyotirlinga.
Devotees Witness Rare Hanuman Swaroop Darshan
Fruits and sweets were offered as bhog, after which the sacred Bhasma Aarti began. A large number of devotees gathered to receive Mahakal’s blessings in this rare Hanuman-avatar form.
The Maha Nirvani Akhada offered holy ash to the deity — a ritual believed to transform the Lord’s appearance from the formless (nirakar) to a manifest divine form (sakar).
