Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a spiritually charged atmosphere on Friday early morning as the traditional Bhasma Aarti was performed following age-old rituals.
Temple doors opened amid Swasti Vachan and the sound of bells. After the silver doors of the Sabha Mandap were opened, priests entered the sanctum and began the sacred proceedings.
Panchamrit Abhishek After Shringar Removal
The priests first removed the earlier adornments of Lord Mahakal and performed Panchamrit Abhishek. The Jyotirlinga was bathed with water, followed by milk, curd, ghee, sugar, honey and fruit juices. This was followed by the Camphor Aarti, filling the sanctum with divine fragrance.
Nandi Puja and Royal Shringar
In the Nandi Hall, Nandi Maharaj was ritually bathed, worshipped and meditated upon.
Lord Mahakal was then decorated in a royal form, with offerings of silver crescent moon, trident crown and ornaments.
Bhanga, sandalwood paste, dry fruits and sacred ash were offered during the shringar.
Silver Crown and Floral Adornments
The deity was adorned with a silver Sheshnag crown, silver skull garland, rudraksha mala and fragrant flower garlands. Fruits and sweets were offered as bhog.
A large number of devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti and sought blessings of Baba Mahakal.
Sacred Ash Offering by Maha Nirvani Akhara
The Maha Nirvani Akhara offered sacred ash to Lord Mahakal.
According to belief, after the offering of bhasma, Lord Mahakal manifests in a visible form, granting divine darshan to devotees.
