India captain Rohit Sharma hit an unbeaten 52, leading his team to victory over Ireland in New York, marking India's 42nd T20I win under his captaincy, surpassing MS Dhoni's record.

Sharma's performance was pivotal, alongside vice-captain Hardik Pandya, as India secured a win in their T20 World Cup 2024 opener.

Sharma achieved significant milestones, becoming the third player to reach 1000 runs in ICC Men's T20 World Cups, behind Mahela Jayawardene and Virat Kohli.

He also moved to second place on the all-time T20I run-scorers list with 4026 runs, overtaking Babar Azam, but trailing teammate Virat Kohli.

During his innings, Sharma hit three sixes, making him the first player to hit 600 sixes across all formats in international cricket.

Chris Gayle is the only other player to have surpassed 500 career sixes, highlighting Sharma's unique achievement.

India's comprehensive win was bolstered by fine bowling and a strong finish, securing an eight-wicket victory in their Group A match.

Despite his match-winning knock, Sharma had to retire hurt due to an arm injury caused by a Josh Little bouncer, though he downplayed its severity.

Rohit reassured fans, stating his arm was just a little sore, indicating no serious injury, maintaining optimism for upcoming matches.

The victory and Sharma's milestones set a positive tone for India's T20 World Cup campaign, emphasizing his critical role and record-breaking prowess.
